- Well, I installed the PC PAR 2.0 driver from DPS last night... I got it
- to work for a while. The setup utility ran just fine, and soon I was looking
- at the main control window for DPS's hokey "Virtual VTR" interface. It works
- pretty much the same as the beta driver control window, except that features
- like preview window, tape position window, etc. don't seem to be features you
- can turn on or off. All the main features are presented in the top-level
- window, although there seems to be a good bit of configuration the user can
- set. One neat feature I found is the option to have the tape position readout
- appear as a clean, digital readout, or as a backlit-plasma-type display.
-
- Everything worked fine until I decided to test DPS's new Optimize routine.
- After optimizing, I began to get "Warning: ObjBody Table Mangled" messages and
- a few others, and I could not access any of the anims on the disk. Monday I'll
- call DPS and ask what is going on; I hope I won't have to re-format my PAR
- drive.
-
- Conclusion: the new driver looks pretty slick, as has the potential to greatly
- increase the usability and productivity of the PAR under WinNT, especially for
- the recording of LIGHTWAVE3D animations (there, I'm on-topic), but it appears
- that some bugs remain.
